Newstead Abbey was originally a monastery, founded in 1170, and later converted into a country house in 1540. Today, it is a popular tourist destination, featuring a museum and open access to the public.
The former monastery is a Grade I listed building, a designation reserved for sites of exceptional historical importance in the United Kingdom. As such, regular and careful maintenance is essential to its preservation.
Tamworth Scaffolding was responsible for designing and building the scaffold for the maintenance works on the building. A key component of the scaffold was the use of Tube-Lock® tubes from Van Thiel United. The advantage of Tube-Lock® tubes is their ability to be connected much more quickly and easily than traditional sleeve couplers used in conventional scaffolding.
When carrying out maintenance or renovation on historic buildings, it is critical that the scaffold follows the exact contours of the structure. This level of precision is often only possible with traditional scaffolding methods. Flexibility is essential for a perfect fit. By using Tube-Lock® tubes, the speed of system scaffolding can be combined with the adaptability of traditional scaffold construction — offering the best of both worlds in one solution.
